Thank you for coming out to vote!  While I may not have won the election, I will still work hard to bring about the initiatives that I mention below.  I can’t wait to work with you all to help strengthen the Downtown Historic Core community!

One of the main reasons many of us have gravitated to the Historic Downtown district is to be part of a thriving community.   It’s noticeable at Spring Street Park, in the sidewalk seating at our restaurants, and at our many start-up fashion boutiques and art galleries.

It is this community that I want to help bolster while serving as the Historic Downtown Resident Director on the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council. As your director, I will help strengthen our community by:

Organizing Grassroots Neighborhood Events - While on the East Hollywood Neighborhood Council Arts and Culture Committee, I had first-hand experience helping organize the inaugural East Hollywood Art Cycle, an event that brought out thousands of people who participated in organized bicycle rides to local art galleries.  Drawing on that experience,  I would like to partner with community leaders and small businesses to put on similar events in Historic Downtown with the focus on getting neighbors to meet their neighbors.

Organizing Government 101 Workshops for Residents & Business Owners – Being informed is critical for any democracy to work.  After working for the City of Los Angeles for the past six years, I have noticed that our residents and small business owners are in desperate need of information on how things work (or at least how they should work). These workshops will give residents and business owners the tools they need to successfully navigate the City bureaucracy.

Working to Build a Sustainable Downtown Los Angeles –  The pillars of Global Sustainability are 1) Economic Prosperity, 2) Social Inclusion, 3) Environmental Sustainability, and 4) Good Governance.  These are values that we have already begun to embrace in the Historic Downtown district.  As your Resident Director, I will work to help ensure that we have a vibrant competitive environment for small businesses, that we fight to ensure adequate affordable housing especially for our most vulnerable residents, and that we have a system for disseminating information and resources on how to take care our natural environment.

My passion for Los Angeles and the Historic Core runs deep and I’d be honored to serve as your representative on the Downtown Neighborhood Council.  Let’s make things happen.
